Greeting from Peru! Sr. Raúl is a member of the Communal Bank “Las Semillitas” (The Seedlings), a group that consists of seven members who engage in various business activities.

Raúl has worked 10 years doing vehicle painting and body repairs with his friend who is also his business partner. This business emerged after Raúl lost his job. The situation worried him because he has a son to support. As a result, he and his friend established this business together with great enthusiasm.

Raúl is requesting a loan in order to buy supplies (paint and all the equipment he needs to do vehicle body repairs) so that he can provide better service to his customers. He is separated from his spouse and has one child. Thanks to his effort and dedication, Raúl has been able to improve his income. His son is studying at the university and now has a better quality of life. Raúl is very pleased with this loan and expresses his appreciation to EDAPROSPO and Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
