Pos, 63, lives with her husband and six children in a rural village of the Thmor Koul district, Cambodia. To support the family, Pos and her husband earn a living as farmers. They have been farming rice on two hectares of farmland for twenty years, earning about 30,000 KHR per day and managing to save about 15,000 KHR each day after off-setting daily expenses.
Pos is in her first loan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is applying for a loan of 610,000 KHR. With this loan, she is going to buy fertilizers for her farmland. She hopes to increase her crop yields so as to generate more income to improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
