Caroline is an aged 36 farmer in Kitale County in Kenya where she lives with her husband and five children who are all schooling. Caroline has been in farming for sixteen years producing potatoes, milk, beans and onions, which she sells locally.
She is requesting for a 62,400 KES (Kenyan Shillings) loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow that will help her boost her business and be able to pay for her children's education. Caroline aspires to have five dairy cows in the near future.
Poor road networks are one of her major challenges in farming because she has difficulties when it comes to transporting her products.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
