In this Group: Irum, Shameem , Shamim, Kalsoom, Fareeda , Shazia, Razia, Naseem, Aasma, Shagufta
Irum is 28 years old and a hard-working and independent woman. She is lives in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband and two sons, both of whom are students. Her husband is a carpenter, but his income is not enough to meet the household expenses.

Since 2009, Irum has been running a beauty salon. She wants to purchase some more cosmetic products, such as hair straighteners and beauty creams, as well as chairs for her beauty salon. For that reason, Irum, as a member of an eight-person lending group, has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan. Once she earns a profit, she will first repay the loan to Kiva and then she wants to build a new room in the salon, as the space in the salon is too crowded. Irum hopes that her business grows more. Her biggest dream in life is to go for an Umrah (pilgrimage). She is very thankful to Kiva.

Note: In the picture Irum is carrying a passbook in her hand.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
