Kirui is a twenty-six-year-old farmer from Litein County in Kenya. He is a single man and has been in farming for three years, producing tea and milk which he sells to the people around his local area. He is a PTA teacher which is his additional source of income.
He is requesting 40,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a chuff cutter which will help him provide more food for his cows, hence production of more milk and income that will later on help him boost his family's living standards.
Competition and lack of a readily available market for tea are his major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
