Rosa Amelia
Rosa Amelia lives in El Sauce located in León Department. She’s 43-years-old, single and has three children; all attend school and only one of them currently works.

Thanks to the caretaker job she’s had for the last 6 years she’s managed to improve her house’s conditions. Her children are preparing themselves professionally and she’s instilled good principles in them and today they are upstanding citizens who are tenacious just like their mother; she raised them alone without help from their father.

She’s requesting the loan to buy bricks, cement and to pay labor costs to replace another wall in said house. Thanks to these loans she’s been improving her house because all the walls used to be mud which represented a great danger for her family and because of this she’s grateful to Kiva and Ceprodel because they’ve made it possible for her to gradually change her living conditions which she never would have been able to accomplish with her low salary.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
