Florida, age 35, is an entrepreneur and married mother of seven children who all go to school. Her husband is a farmer.
Florida sells sugar cane. She started her business with a basic loan from the Hekima MFI, and this is her 12th loan cycle. She conducts her sales from her home, wholesale and retail.

This new loan will help her to buy one ton of sugar cane from the Rutshuru region. Her main challenge is the lack of political stability in the Rutshuru territory, which is under occupation by M23 rebels and other subversive elements.

She plans to buy a plot of land for her family and to help her children finish their studies.

Florida wishes to thank the Hekima MFI for helping impoverished women who do not have access to traditional banking channels.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
