This communal bank is called “La Magia del Sur” (Magic of the South) and it has 17 enterprising members who are in a variety of lines of work among which are: firewood sales, food sales, household goods sales, crafts, furniture store and services, among others. All of them are from the city of Villarrica.

Pamela is a member of this communal bank and in the photo she’s standing fifth from right to left wearing a black shirt, print skirt, black leggings and gray shoes; her hair is dark brown and it’s long and worn loose.

She has been selling clothes for adults and for babies for the last three months. She comments that she works selling from place to place offering her goods door to door and sometimes to acquaintances. She manages her time according to her availability since her son is still very little.

The merchandise she needs she gets from family members or from friends and sometimes she buys it in the city of Santiago at low cost which is advantageous economically. She will use the loan just to buy clothes for babies.

One of Pamela’s goals is to change her line of work to fast-food sales because she needs to earn more income to support her family and have the option of a better quality of life.

Pamela lives with her husband and 11-month-old little boy. Her dream on a work level is to grow in lines of work that lead to new paths and on the personal level to finish her education and graduate with a degree.

She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity provided by Fondo Esperanza because it allows her to invest in her business. With respect to the communal bank she forms part of, she comments that good communication exists among them. On the other hand, the training has been useful to learn sales and bookkeeping strategies.

Villarrica is a city in south Chile located in the La Araucanía region. It’s a small city but it has all basic and tourism services. It’s one of the main service centers for the mountain region and main regional tourism center alongside Pucón. During the summer months many activities and cultural, artistic and sporting events are organized. There are also innumerable ecotourism, ethno tourism and extreme sports alternatives available.

Este Banco Comunal se llama “La magia del Sur” está conformado por 17 emprendedores quienes se dedican a diferentes rubros, entre los cuales se encuentran; venta de leña, venta de colaciones, menaje, mueblería, artesanía, servicios entre otros. Todos ellos pertenecientes a la ciudad de Villarrica.
Pamela, integrante del grupo del Banco Comunal, quien en la foto se encuentra de pie, ocupando el quinto lugar de derecha a izquierda, viste una polera de color negra, una falda de colores, pantys de color negra y zapatillas de color gris, su cabello es de color castaño oscuro y lo usa suelto y largo.
Ella se dedica al rubro de venta de ropa de bebe y para adultos, desde hace 3 meses. Comenta que trabaja como vendedora ambulante ofreciendo su mercadería a domicilio y a veces a conocidos, su horario lo distribuye de acuerdo a su disponibilidad ya que su hijo es muy pequeño.
La mercadería que va necesitando la adquiere de familiares o amigos y algunas veces compra en la ciudad de Santiago a bajo costo, por lo tanto conveniente económicamente.
Con el crédito comprará solo ropa de bebe.
Una de las metas de Pamela es cambiar de rubro como comida rápida, ya que necesita tener más ingresos para sustentar a su familia y así con esto optar a una mejor calidad de vida.
Pamela vive junto a su esposo y su hijo pequeño de 11 meses de vida. Sus sueños a nivel laboral es crecer en los rubros que emprenda nuevos caminos, y en lo personal terminar sus estudios para obtener su titulo.
Ella se encuentra muy contenta y agradecida de la oportunidad brindada por Fondo Esperanza, ya que le permitirá invertir en su negocio. Respecto al grupo del Banco Comunal del cual forma parte, comenta que en éste existe muy buena comunicación. Por otro lado las capacitaciones, le han servido para aprender estrategias de venta y contabilidad.
Villarrica es una ciudad al sur de Chile, ubicada en la región de La Araucanía. Es una ciudad pequeña, pero cuenta con todos los servicios básicos y turísticos, siendo uno de los principales centros de servicios del área cordillerana y principal centro turístico de la región, junto con Pucón. Durante los meses de verano se realizan numerosas actividades y eventos culturales, artísticos y deportivos, Además de las innumerables alternativas de Ecoturismo, Turismo Aventura y Etnoturismo.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
