María is a 25-year-old hardworking woman. She is single and she lives in Sololà. Together with her parents and some of her brother’s activities, her job helps contributing to their family’s economy.
She has always loved working ever since she was a child. She did not have the chance to study because her parents did not have the necessary economic means. She has then learned how to make the typical female clothes that are worn in her village and also how to engage in farming.
She now creates glass pearls items such as bracelets, birds, necklaces and earrings to give them to a wholesaler customer of her community that is constantly placing orders with her.
She has learned this activity from her sisters, as they were engaged in this activity as well. After a few years she decided to become independent by making her own products. She earns an acceptable income, thus improving her family’s earnings, and she has now been engaged in making these articles for 6 years.
Having notice that at this time of years there is an increase in the requests she receives, she is asking for a loan of Q 4,000.00 to buy glass pearls in different colors and thread to keep on creating more article and to satisfy all of her customers’ requests.
Her biggest dream is to expand her activity, selling products to more customers of her community, in order to help improving her family’s strand of living.

María es una mujer trabajadora de 25 años de edad, ella es soltera y vive en Sololá. Junto a sus padres y algunos hermanos trabajan y contribuyen a la economía de la familia.
Ella siempre le ha gustado trabajar ya que desde que era niña no tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar en la escuela por que sus padres no tenían la posibilidad económica. Ella aprendió a elaborar prendas típicas femeninas que usan en su pueblo y a trabajar en el campo de la agricultura.
Ahora ella fabrica artículos de perlas de fantasía como pulseras, cinturones, collares, aretes para entregarle a un acreedor mayorista en su comunidad que siempre le hace pedidos.
Esto lo aprendió de sus hermanas la cual realizaban este trabajo, con el pasar de los años ella decide ser independiente fabricando sus propios productos. Ella obtiene una ganancia aceptable mejorando los ingresos de la familia, ahora tiene 6 años fabricando estos artículos.
Motivo por la cual ve que los pedidos aumentan por la temporada del año y necesita un préstamo de Q 4,000.00 para comprar perlas de fantasía de diferentes colores he hilo para seguir fabricando mas artículos y cumplir con los pedidos de su acreedor.
Ampliar su negocio es su mayor sueño entregando pedidos a más acreedores en su comunidad apoyando a mejorar las condiciones de vida de su familia.

ADICLA's youth entrepreneurship loans allow young people without prior credit histories to borrow in groups, an opportunity that is not offered by many other microfinance institutions in Guatemala. The loans will be used to help them start small businesses.
