Greetings from Peru! Maritza is chair of the "Los Rosales de Huasteca" group, which is starting its second loan cycle with Edaprospo.

Moritz has had a printing house for a year, where she makes books for primary and secondary schools. Moritz is a teacher, but after having an accident and having to retire from teaching, she decided to apply her long experience as a teacher to this business. She receives orders from schools, then writes the books, prints them, and ring-binds them.

Maritza has applied for the loan in order to buy parts for printers, because two of her machines have broken down. She has a great desire to continue running her business, and her next priority is to take out all the necessary permits.

Maria is 37 years old. She is married and has three children. As a teacher, her greatest concern is ensuring that her children receive an education, and that is why she wishes to increase her income.

Maritza is the woman on the left in the first row, and is the one presenting the group in the video.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
