Veronica is married, but separated from her husband. She has two young children and lives with them at her father-in-law’s house that consists of two finished rooms and a cement floor. The house is located in the District of Pura Pura in the city of La Paz.

Veronica works more than 10 hours a day as a secretary for a carpet company. With what little she earns, she is able to pay for the cost of food and basic services for her family. The only support she receives from her husband is in the amount of 600 BOB.

The loan she is requesting will be used to pay for English classes since this is a skill that will help her communicate with people from abroad. Her dream is to have a carpet store of her own since this is the type of business where she is currently employed.

This is the first time Veronica has worked with Kiva.

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
