Ziya
Ziya is a 36-year-old farmer who raises crops such as fruits, vegetables, wheat, and corn. He is an IDP (Internally Displaced Person) and lives with his family in an IDP Settlement. His son helps him and Ziya hopes that one day his son will continue the family business.

The IDP Settlement was built several years ago, and there are still some utility problems such as the water supply. People are suffering and he orders special cars with water to irrigate his crops, especially in summertime, when the temperature reaches 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ziya’s monthly income is 200 AZN. However, this is not enough to build a water channel for his crops because it is quite an expensive process which requires a labor force and special equipment. When Ziya heard about water loans, he was extremely excited and applied for a 2,000 AZN loan. He will use this loan to pay for special equipment like a tractor for making a water channel and for workers who will dig the land.

Ziya is a trustworthy client of AqroInvest and has a good client history.

About Aqroinvest:

Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded in 2001 by a group of 32 farmers from Imishli. It has since grown to become the largest credit union in Azerbaijan, owned by its more than 5,400 borrowers and boasting a portfolio of nearly US$12 million.
AqroInvest is focused on providing loans to the following groups of people: rural farmers, people living in distant southern villages with little or no access to finance and internally displaced people and refugees, many of whom lost their homes and livelihoods during the violent conflicts in the 1990s.

The project gives students the support and financing they need to continue their education and helps pay for tuition fees at various universities in Azerbaijan. Aqroinvest is the first credit union in the country to offer students loans.
