Nosirdjon is getting a loan from us for the purchase of cattle. On his farm, he has a cow and two bulls. Nosirdjon also works as a foreman at a construction company. His wife works as a cook in a kindergarten. They have three children.

Next year, he plans to use his assets to start construction on his home and to complete two more rooms. As his children grow, three rooms is too small for the family. But a lot of money would be needed to start construction. He plans to use the loan to buy another couple of cows and, when they grow up, to sell them at the best price. At that point, he will be able to start his construction.

He is grateful that there are organizations that one can be relied upon.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
