Safeena's Group
In this Group: Safeena, Sajida, Noureen, Haneefa, Rehana, Robina, Ghazala, Shagufta, Fouzia
Safeena is 36 years old, a hard-working and independent woman. She is living in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband and two sons. Her husband has been running a general store and his income is not enough to meet the household expenses. Since 2007 Safeena has been running a beauty salon, and she wants to purchase some more cosmetic products and chairs for the business.

For that reason as a member of a nine-person lending group she has requested a loan from Kiva partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase cosmetics like facial creams, lipsticks, hair colors and other varieties of products for her salon. If she gets good profit she is going to open a tailoring school, pay house expenses, repay the loan amount and will put aside some savings for her family as well.

Safeena hopes that her business will grow more and she is very much thankful to both BRAC and Kiva. Note: In the picture, Safeena is holding a passbook in her hand.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
