Makvala is from the Gurjaani district in the Kakheti region. She is 60 years old and lives with her son and daughter-in-law. Her daughter-in-law has an income from commercial space rental. Makvala runs a small dairy farm and produces cheese, which is sold in her village and nearby villages. She purchases foodstuffs and miscellaneous household items in the wholesale market in Tbilisi (capital of Georgia) and sells them in the village. Makvala works hard to save some of her earnings and improve her living conditions.
With the requested loan, Makvala will purchase turkeys and maize to feed them. She will raise turkeys and sell them in the new year at a good price. A turkey is the main ingredient for the Georgian traditional new year’s meal, Satsivi. This will increase the family's income and all members will improve their living conditions.
