Blanca was working in a company where she was doing well, and thanks to the income she was making there, she was able to financially contribute to the household with her husband, and take care of her 18 year old daughter. But some time ago, there were job cuts, and Blanca was left unemployed. For months, she looked for new job opportunities, but they never came.
It was then that the need to make money made Blanca start up a general store next to her house that offers everyday groceries. Since her husband is a contractor, he built the wooden shop, and that's when the business began overcoming their money issues. Now Blanca is looking for a loan to buy a refrigerator and a display case, which are necessary in order to offer products that need refrigeration.
In this way, the sales of the shop will grow considerably, allowing Blanca to keep going with her store and improve profits, offering a better quality of life in her home. Her dream is to have a great business, and she also dreams of being able to pay for her daughter’s university education.
This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
