Living in a wooden house with a thatched wall in a rural village of the Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham province, Sor is 42 years old and married with two dependent children who are still in school. She and her husband earn a living through farming rice and raising pigs. The current business earns her about KHR 76,000 per day and she can save about KHR 35,000 each day for their future needs.
Sor has been a member of VisionFund for one cycle already and she successfully repaid the loan, which has helped her better support her family’s living. Now requesting another loan of KHR 2,000,000, she is going to use her loan to buy fertilizers for her farmland and to buy more piglets. She hopes to grow her current business to increase her family’s income and improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
