Arnulfo De Jesus
Arnulfo previously worked selling coffee which he gathered from harvests that he purchased, but this work was not very stable and he was not able to offer his family a good quality of life with this. One day he met a man in his town who proposed to work at his side delivering food, and since then Arnulfo has carried out this work delivering food. With some small savings that he had, he purchased a vehicle to make the delivery more effective and this has allowed him to deliver food to other towns. However, now the problem with this is the lack of capital in the business, as he has a grand market to attend to but he does not have the necessary investment in food to be able to satisfy them. To improve this situation, Arnulfo requires a loan to purchase food and therefore to be able to satisfy the demands of all his customers.

His dream is to be able to grow this business, to improve it, to be able to obtain better profits, and to make it so that his family has the opportunity to have a better quality of life and better economic opportunities.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
