Luz Marina has gone through great adversities her entire life in order to support her children and move her home forward. Nevertheless, she’s always been noted for being very tenacious and for looking for ways to continue forward with much effort.
She’s a single mother of three children because her children’s father abandoned them when they were still very little and Luz Marina has had to do different types of work in order to support her home.
After many years of working in a variety of jobs, a few years ago she set up a small grocery store at home that’s made it possible for her to earn higher income and provide her three children with better quality of life.
Because she does not have sufficient capital in her business and she hopes to overcome these economic difficulties, Luz Marina is calling on a loan to buy basic staple items to stock her store with a wider variety of goods her customers are requesting.
Her dream is to be able to have a large store that will considerably improve her income so she can offer her three children better quality of life.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
