Yasmeen is a 30-year-old hardworking housewife. She is living in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband, three daughters and two sons. Her husband is a taxi driver by profession, but currently he is not able to generate any income from the taxi as its engine is not working properly. He wants to repair it as soon as possible as they are facing many financial problems.

For this reason, Yasmeen, a member of a nine person lending group, has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan. With the profit, she will be looking to purchase a sewing machine so that she can generate some money and help her husband financially by sewing clothes. Yasmeen wants to provide a quality education for all her children and she prays for the good health of her family and for the growth of her husband's business. She is very much thankful to BRAC.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
