In this Group: Fozia, Saira, Gulshan, Shehnaz, Nuzhat, Naila, Naseem, Shagufta, Rukhsana
Fozia is a 29-year-old, hard working and independent woman. She is living in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband and son, who is studying in third class. Fozia's husband is an auto mechanic. His income is not enough to meet the household expenses. Since 2003, Fozia has been running a beauty salon and she wants to purchase some more cosmetic products and chairs for her beauty salon. For that reason, as a member of a nine-person lending group, she has requested a loan from Kiva partner BRAC Pakistan. With her profits, she will first repay the loan amount to Kiva and then she wants to build a new room in the salon, as the current space in the salon is too congested. She hopes for her daughter's bright future. Note: In the picture, Fozia is carrying a passbook in her hand.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
