Silas B. is 53 years old and married with seven children. As a teacher, with a salary of less than $250, it is not easy to provide all the needs of the family members. Silas has 5 of hectors farmland but cannot cultivate them all due to lack of farm supplies and labor assistance.. He would like expand his farming activity to produce more rice, beans and cassava for the family. He is therefore requesting a loan of $700 to purchase fertilizer, seeds and to hire labor.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities.
