Gilbert lives in the Malindi area of Coast Province, Kenya. He is married and has three children, all of whom attend school. He owns a charcoal shop, which he has been operating for five years.
He learned about Milango through a friend who invited him to the group. He joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve his business operations. His main challenges are high transport and fuel costs, and purchasing stock during rainy seasons.
Gilbert is applying a loan of 41850 Kenya shillings to buy charcoal wholesale. His extra income will be added to his savings to pay school fees, which has been a hassle due to lack of funds. Thus he can pay off the school fee balance for his son, who is finishing school this year. He hopes to continue with his business and to be able to improve the standard of living of his family.
