Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Faustina's story

Faustina is a 62-year-old woman who is a single mother of seven children. Four of them are boys who are married, three are girls two of which are married and one is still single and living with her in Sololá. She’s a hardworking woman who likes to make progress in life. She currently has a grocery store and cafeteria where she sells snacks, cold and hot beverages, refreshments and others to students at a university in Sololá.

She started this business 12 years ago with help from her daughters since sadly she separated from her husband many years ago. However, that wasn’t an obstacle to continue making life progress.

She relates that she got the opportunity of having another grocery store in the local market and to do so she had to take capital from her store and cafeteria at the university but still needs capital to invest and needs a Q 8,000.00 loan to buy merchandise for her store and cafeteria to improve her family income. Among her dreams is to better capitalize her business and expanding it or perhaps to open another business.
