Clotilde is single and has five children three of which are independent. She lives in her own, two-bedroom house with adobe walls and cement floor located in the city of La Paz’s Alto San Pedro zone.

Clotilde works more than 8 hours daily as a cook preparing food to sell at her doorstep because she does not have a restaurant and with the little she earns she must cover her family’s food and basic utility costs.

She needs the loan to buy pots, tables, chairs, dishes, cutlery, etc. to set up a restaurant. Clotilde’s dream is to improve her income and build a spacious restaurant to welcome more customers. This is her sixth loan request to IMPRO and first to KIVA.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
