The communal bank "Mar de Plata" (Sea of Silver) will begin its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Santiago II regional center. It consists of 8 members, and it is governed by a board of directors, where Señora Ruth is the president. The members of the communal bank run a variety of businesses. Among them are neighborhood store, selling clothing, making furniture, making clothing, selling flax seeds and sweets, and butcher shop.

The loan that they will take out will benefit these small microentrepreneurs, such as Señora Ruth. She comments that she has been in Pro Mujer for two loan cycles, joining at the invitation of a loan officer from the institution who went to visit her at home. Now she has a neighborhood store, since her home, where this business is located, is strategically located for selling products.

The loan that she will take out now is to increase her capital by buying oils, sugar, etc., which she will acquire from the wholesale distributors and then will sell in her sales location. This form of work allows her to generate resources to help her family as much as possible, since she is married and has two children.

When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the training in credit and health.

In the photograph, Señora Deysi is not present because she was in the medical clinic.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
