Jandres is a student of the Academy of Maritime Nusantara, taking the Nautical program. This is Jandres story:

From the time I was little, I lived with my grandparents, as my parents died when I was a kid. When my grandfather died, I had to stay with grandma. While Gramma’s earnings are enough for daily needs, grandmother still [needed to] finance my tuition. My grandmother is now 79 years old and ailing and may be forced to stop and close. The stall costs of my grandmother are currently borne by my uncle and, until I finished high school, I was financed by my uncle.

I feel life ever harder. After graduating from high school, I was not able to go to college, because I do not have the fees. Since then, I started working to earn money for college. With this student loan from Kiva, my hopes began to focus again on going to college in order to be successful and make my grandmother and my uncle's family happy. I aspire to become a professional sailor and be successful based on a foundation of misery, hard work and passion.
