Mayadevi is single, and she does not have children. She lives in her parents’ house, occupying only one room. The house is in the Sopocachi area of the city of La Paz.

She is currently employed by a private company, and she works for over eight hours a day. She studies photography in the evenings. She needs the loan to buy photography materials (a camera and photography books) because she wishes to finish her studies. She does not earn enough to buy these things because she needs to cover the expenses for food and basic services.

Mayadevi’s dream is to improve her income and to have her own photography studio. She wants to do this in order to later become independent.

This is the first time that she has worked with IMPRO and Kiva.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
