Shahida's Group
In this Group: Shahida, Jameela, Saima, Asia, Shehnaz, Nadia, Sajida
Shahida is a 29-year-old hardworking woman who lives in Punjab, Pakistan with her husband and two daughters. Her husband is jobless. Since 2004 Shahida has been running a beauty salon, which is the only source of income for the family. It is very difficult for her to pay for all of the household expenses. As a member of a 7-person lending group, she has requested a loan from Kiva partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase cosmetic products like lipstick and facial creams, as well as chairs and tables, for the salon. With the profits she will first pay back her loan to Kiva, and then she will purchase a variety of cosmetic products for the salon to extend her business. Shahida dreams of owning her own house, as she is living in a rented house with her family. She is currently facing water storage problems in the area where she is living. She wants to thank all the BRAC staff for being so cooperative.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
