Elizabeth is a 30-year-old farmer in the Nkubu area in Kenya. She lives with her husband and four of her children, of which three are in school. She has been in farming for five years producing milk, which she sells to the people around her local area. She also runs a retail shop as an additional source of income.
Elizabeth is requesting 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry that will bring her extra income to help in educating her children. She believes she will grow to open her own wholesale shop in the future.
Pests and diseases are the main challenges she faces in farming.
Elizabeth thanks Juhudi Kilimo because she believes it has helped her to be where she is today.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
