Rael is 42 years old and a farmer in the Nkubu area of Kenya. She is widowed and lives with four of her children, who are all attending schools. She has been in farming for over 15 years producing cereals, which she sells locally.
Rael is requesting a loan of KES 50,000 for purchasing water tanks and irrigation equipment. She will install that equipment in her acre piece of land to help her improve her produce and hence earn more income to be able to educate her children.
Lack of enough rainfall and of enough capital are some of the challenges she is facing in farming.
Rael thanks Juhudi Kilimo for their faster processing of loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
