Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Rogelio's story

Rogelio is 30 years old and lives in the city of Pucallpa. This city is known for its warm and welcoming climate. It is also known for its beautiful landscape and its wonderful flora and fauna. The local people are generous and friendly.

Rogelio is a very hard-working man but, whenever he has a little free time, he really enjoys eating one of his favorite dishes: 'aguadito de pollo' (Peruvian chicken soup). Rogelio only studied up to the second year of his primary education as he was from a low-income family. He would have liked to have gone on to become a forestry engineer.

Rogelio puts a lot of enthusiasm into his work as a farmer, growing cacao, bananas and rice. He works around 12 hours a day on his crops as he gives them a lot of care. He believes that his business is doing well because he enjoys what he does and because he has a great desire to make progress.

Rogelio is very grateful to Kiva lenders because, thanks to their help, he will be able to buy manure and fertilizers. He will also be able to plow his land. This will ensure he has a good harvest and he will improve his income. This, in turn, will allow him to continue working hard toward his biggest dream: to have more crops.
