Irene is a thirty-five-year-old farmer in Nkubu area in Kenya. She is married with two children who are both schooling. She has been in farming for over fifteen years producing maize, beans, milk and peas that she sells to the people in her local area.
Irene is requesting 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry to enhance her income so she will be able to use her money to educate her children through to college in future. Her main challenge is high cost of feeds.
Irene requests Juhudi Kilimo to lower their interest rates for paying up the loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
