Juan Alfonso
Juan Alfonso is 37 years old. He has a small business selling fried foods in the neighborhood of Ticuantepe. His wife works as a bio-analyst in a medical clinic. In this way they both support each other so they can give all of their attention to their two month-old baby, who needs lots of care and, above all, good living conditions. They need to build a kiosk outside of their house so they can have more visibility for their products where the customers will see them and not have the business inside their house. He is requesting his first loan with Afodenic and Kiva so he can buy construction materials such as: 7 units of purlins at 3,290.00 Nicaraguan córdobas (NIO); 10 zinc roofing sheets at 5,000.00 NIO; 1 galon of paint at 700.00 NIO; 2 bags of cement at 440.00 NIO; 20 buckets of sand at 440.00 NIO. This comes to 9,870 NIO, not including labor. He is appreciative of the support provided.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
