A loan of $525 helped buy more cows and increase milk production.

Luis Rodrigo's story

Luis is 26 years old, has finished secondary school, and lives with his wife who is 24. They have a child, just 2 months old, and live in Luis's parents house, located in Latacunga. This is the capital of Cotopaxi province, part of Ecuador's sierra region.

The region has developed notably in recent years, so much so that it's now considered among the most important, thanks to its flower-growing, mining, metallurgy, agro-industry, agriculture and cattle-raising. In addition, there are business establishments that generate notable incomes, converting it into a commercial city with various opportunities to get ahead. Latacunga is a welcoming city that attracts tourists with its narrow, decorated, colonial streets and its architectonic churches that conserve the typical facades of past years.

Luis sees an opportunity to expand his cattle-raising activity, which he was taught by his parents, starting in early childhood some 20 years ago. Each day, he invests 2 or 3 hours in the most demanding activities while his wife is responsible for the general care of the animals. Luis combines milk-producing activity with raising pigs for later sale.

Luis approached the Fundacion Alternativa hoping to expand, and seeking the help it offers the rural sector with loans and training opportunities. He solicited a loan to buy more animals and increase milk production. In this manner, Luis hopes to improve their incomes so that, later, he can make his dream of having his own house a reality.
