Jose is a 53-year-old man married to Maria, 54, he finished elementary school and lives in Otavalo in a house in the province of Imbabura, located in the North of Ecuador, where most if its inhabitants are indigenous people and is a rich town in the country where a large amount of crafts are made and exported and have international demand.
Tourism is an important source of income because they are visited by nationals and foreigners due to it's attractive touristic centers in the city such as the architectural streets and waterfalls and rivers that are outside the city. The celebrations and gastronomy are very popular, because they are traditional of their people where visitors from around the world are welcome.
Jose grows strawberry to sell, he has worked in this activity for six years and spends up to 12 hours on it per day. He learned this business from the workers association that performs the same activity with other fruits and crops, Jose belongs to this association. He requested a loan to Fundacion Alternativa to increase his planted land for which he needs products such as plastic, organic fertilizer, chemicals and others, with this expansion his income will be higher and he'll be able to provide a better lifestyle to his wife.

José es un hombre de 53 años que está casado con María 54, el alcanzó a cursar estudios primarios y viven en Otavalo un cantón de la provincia de Imbabura, una provincia que se encuentra al norte de la República del Ecuador en donde su mayoría de habitantes son indígenas y es el pueblo más rico en todo el país donde se fabrican gran cantidad de artesanías que son exportadas y son muy cotizadas internacionalmente. El turismo es una fuente muy importante de ingresos ya que es visitada por personas nacionales e internacionales por sus atractivos centros turísticos en la ciudad como sus arquitectónicas calles y cascadas y ríos fuera de la ciudad. Las fiestas que se realizan allí y su gastronomía son muy concurridas, pues son típicas de la raza indígena en donde son bienvenidos visitantes de todo el país y el mundo.
José se dedica a cultivar frutillas para luego comercializarlas, lleva realizando esta actividad 6 años e invierte hasta 12 horas cada día. Aprendió de este negocio de una Asociación de trabajadores que realizan el mismo trabajo con otras frutas y cultivos y José pertenece a esta Asociación. Él solicitó un préstamo en Fundación Alternativa para incrementar sus cultivos para lo cual necesita insumos como plásticos, abono orgánico y químico y otros, con este incremento sus ingresos serán mayores y con esto podrá brindar un mejor estilo de vida a su esposa.
