A loan of $1,425 helped to buy farming supplies for his coffee farm.

Luis Martín's story

Luis is a 48-year-old gentleman who lives in the rural Costa Rican community of San Cristóbal, which is located 45 kilometers to the south of San José. San Cristóbal is a slightly mountainous area that is the home to businesses involved in trade, vegetable farming, coffee, handicrafts, livestock breeding, and other areas.

For several years, Don Luis has been devoted to the planting and harvesting of coffee among his many activities. He is a hardworking and enterprising gentleman. Due to his work, he has helped to improve his family’s living conditions considerably. His coffee farm needs to be maintained throughout the development process in order to obtain a quality product. For this reason, he is requesting a loan of 700,000 CRC in order to buy farming supplies such as pesticides, herbicides, compost, and other items. With this loan, he will be able to maintain his coffee farm, obtain coffee that is of good quality, get ahead financially, and improve his quality of life even more. He was able to achieve similar results with the previous loans he obtained and says that they have been a great help and benefit for himself and his family.

Don Luis is a member of the Communal Credit Enterprise of San Cristóbal Norte (SACRIN), one of the 150 member organizations that make up EDESA in Costa Rica.
