Christopher is aged sixty two years and has been in a farming business. He is married and has seven children, two of whom are in schooling. His farm produce includes maize and milk, which he sells locally.
Christopher has requested a loan of 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He believes this will boost his family's income. He aspires to grow his business and supply the regional markets. He adds that part of the milk income will ensure that he gets a better education for his children.
He mentions feed shortage and animal diseases as the main challenges in his business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
