Ghazala, 39, is an independent and married woman who livies with her family in a remote area of Punjab, Pakistan. Her family consists of her husband, a son, and a daughter. Both of her children are in school. Her husband works in a boutique shop and his monthly income is less than 20,000pkr, which is too low to meet his family's basic needs and to meet household expenses. For the past 3 years, Ghazal has been running a beauty salon which has been very successful. She now needs to purchase some furniture and cosmetic products for the salon.

For that, as a member of a eight-person lending group, she has requested a loan from Kiva partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase some furniture (chairs, etc.) and some cosmetic products (lipstick, facial scrubs, beauty kits, etc.) for her beauty salon.

While running her business, she is also a very good and hardworking housewife. She has to look after both her children as well as her business. Her husband, children, neighbors, and clients always appreciate her hard work. Ghazala's biggest dream of life is to provide a quality education to her children. She is very much thankful to BRAC and Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
