Ephentus is a farmer in central Kenya, where he lives with his family of two children. His farm produce currently includes maize, beans, peas, and milk for the local market.
Ephentus has requested a loan of KES 30,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a water tank for his farm. He hopes to boost his farming income once he maintains a constant water supply in his farm. He plans to buy more acres of land and expand his farming business significantly.
He says the high cost of pesticides and fluctuation of rains remain major challenges in his farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
