Lilian is a resident of Litein in South Rift, part of Kenya, where she lives with her family of three children, all of whom are of school-going ages. She has been in the business of farming for fourteen years and currently runs her own farm, which produces tea and milk, with one farmhand. She operates a retail shop as well.
Lilian has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a milk cooler. She says this will help in preserving her milk produce and help mitigate the challenge of transport, which usually results in huge losses when supplies do not make it in time to the market. Lilian also plans to increase the number of her dairy cows to three.
Lilian is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for the loan services and emphasizes that she will use a major part of her income to educate her children.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
