Grace is a mother of three children and has been in farming for over thirty years. Her current products include tea and milk which are both sold locally. Her the income goes toward meeting her family's basic needs. She runs her farm with the help of one farmhand.
Grace has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a chaff cutter. She says this will ease the feeding of her growing number of dairy cows and allow her to engage in other farming activities. She hopes to be able to build a modern dairy unit in the near future.
She says a shortage of feed, which makes the feed extremely costly during dry season, remains a major challenge.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
