Maribel Celestina
Maribel is 39 years old and lives in Pisco, a city that is characterized by its hot climate, beautiful beaches, and world-class tourist attractions such as the Ballestas islands and a famous geoglyph called Candelabro de Paracas. It is an agricultural region where the common crops are cotton, corn, and others. Maribel is very hardworking but, when she has a little bit of free time, she loves to play volleyball with her friends in the neighborhood and, sometimes, she likes to enjoy one of her favorite dishes which is the delicious Aji de Gallina, a spicy chicken stew. Due to her parents having few economic resources, she was only able to study until the 5th grade of secondary school. But, she would have very much liked to study to be a nurse.
Everyday, Maribel works as a farmer. She has a small plot of land which she has sown with corn. She works around 9 hours a day and, with the fruit of her labor, she can pay the household expenses and support her parents. She believes that she is doing will because she enjoys what she does and, above all, because she wants to get ahead.
Maribel is very grateful to the Kiva lenders because, thanks to the support that they have offered her, she will be able to buy insecticides, fertilizer, and other supplies. With these, she will be able to grow her crops in good conditions and to have a good harvest. She will continue working everyday to realize her greatest dream: "to have more land and be a good businesswoman."
