Thy is 36 years old and a rural villager from Sa Ang district of Kandal province, Cambodia. He has only a two-year-old son who needs his support. To provide for their daily cost of living, he grows paddy rice on one hectare of farmland as the core business and supplements his income via planting cassava and mango. He has engaged in this business for several years. Thy has been with VisionFund, Kiva's partner, for the past three loan cycles. He successfully has used his loan in managing his cash-crop planting business and to better support his household. Now, he is seeking a loan of 1,200 USD to buy more cassava for planting. He hopes to receive more yields from his crop so as to improve his standard lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
