Iokapeta is 30 years old and married with three children. She runs a small business selling barbeque in her community and has been doing this for four years. Iokapeta has requested a loan to buy some new items such as sausages, chicken leg quarters and mutton flaps. She joined SPBD in 2008 to gain access to capital. With her earnings, Iokapeta will buy a new grill to use in her business.
South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) improves conditions for families living in poverty by providing accessible credit, training, and guidance to help them start, grow and maintain micro-businesses, build assets, finance home improvements, and afford to educate their children. 99% of SPBD’s loans go to women, who can borrow in groups to guarantee one another rather than put up collateral.
