Kong is 45 years old, married, and has three children, two of whom attend school and one who is employed. To earn a living, she raises pigs at home and her husband grows beans and cabbages on two hectares of farmland. She has been in this business for 25 years.
Kong's previous loan with VisionFund, which helped her to better support her business as well as her household, was successfully repaid. Kong is requesting her second loan for $1,500, which she will use to buy more pigs to raise. A portion of this loan will be used to support her husband's business for purchasing a water pump and drilling a well. She hopes to fatten her pigs and sell at a high price so that she can double her income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
