Chheng is 46 years of age and a married woman who is responsible for six children. She lives together with her family in Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham province.

She is involved in a farming business to meet the needs of her family, especially for daily sustenance and allowances for children. Chheng plants and harvests rice to sell to local traders each season. Chheng dreams of having a suitable house for living because her inherited present house is worn due to long-time use.

Chheng would like to renovate her house but she doesn’t have sufficient capital to do that. In this regard, she is requesting a loan through HKL, one of Kiva's partners, to purchase the necessary construction supplies such as cement, bricks, sand and timbers. She will be very thankful if this will be granted to her as a way for improving her family's living conditions. She hopes that her dream will come true soon through the help of the loan.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
