The "COLQUE PATHA" community association is starting its twenty-sixth cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Los Andes, which is made up of eleven members and is run by a board of which Estefa is president. The members of the community association operate a variety of businesses, including the following: a neighborhood store; clothing sales; gift sales; sewing skirts; and a call center. The loan they are requesting will benefit small microbusiness owners including Estefa. She says that she has belonged to Pro Mujer for four years, after being invited by a friend who is a member of the organization. She now has a call center business, the same one that she started twenty years ago at the suggestion of her in-laws and her husband. The loan that she is requesting is to add to her capital (the purchase of phone booths) that she will buy from wholesalers and later install in her commercial space. This type of work allows her to earn income for her family, as she is married and has three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes loans in the health field.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
