Flor Angela
Flor learned to sew twenty-five years ago, and even started working as a seamstress for a clothing company. After fifteen years of working for this company, she was obligated to stop working and stay at home to care for her two children, which she did until recently, when the father of her children left them. As a result, the economic duties of the household have fallen on her. To be able to generate the income necessary to provide for her two children and help them to get ahead, Flor purchased a basic sewing machine and began to sew again. Now, thanks to the quality of her work, she has very good customers. The difficulty she has is that since she does not have the right machine, she cannot make whole clothing, and her payment is very low. For this reason, Flor is requesting a loan to purchase an overlock sewing machine which will allow her to take orders for whole clothing and her income will increase considerably.

Flor hopes that the economic conditions in her home improve considerably, and that her two children will be able to have a better quality of life and access to a better quality education.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
