Ismet is in his mid forties, married and has three children who are all attending school. Ismet’s family lives in central Albania near the national road that makes his business visible and accessible by almost all farmers who are in need for his services.
For the past ten years, Ismet has been operating a mill where he grinds corn and wheat and other grains as well. He inherited the mill, relevant skills and some of his current clientele from his father. Now Ismet plans on expanding the space of the mill to serve more clients and have more storage for the flour.
The loan he is now applying for is to properly cover the small mill building to prevent leaking during rainfall.
Ismet hopes that the lenders at Kiva will support him financially.
About VisionFund Albania
VisionFund Albania is a micro-finance subsidiary of child hunger nonprofit World Vision International. Striving to improve child welfare, the organization offers a variety of loan products designed for rural, traditionally underserved clients and their families. These products include agriculture, business and household improvement loans, as well as "integration loans" targeted to help the poorest, most vulnerable Albanian households acquire value chain resources.
While VFA is focused on the empowerment of the poor overall, it pays special attention to women. About 60% of loans to entrepreneurs on Kiva go to women.
